I’ve been using this product for only 3 weeks so I haven’t done the test of time to see if this lasts, but I’m quite impressed with this so I thought I’d write a review. So far I’ve found this to be a great multipurpose tool suitable for a whole range of things that may suite you.
INTERNAL BATTERY & JUMPSTARTING:

I’ve used the internal (12Ah) battery to drive 12V tools, even a 600W car amp and subwoofers (for an hour). When you plug it back in it charges the internal battery very quickly. Has correct polarity detection, very useful LED indicators, remaining internal charge display etc. I’ve only used it to jumpstart a car once and it worked great, you can use it probably 5-8 times to jump start before you deplete the battery. This is a very smart charge, so you can leave it plugged in indefinitely to the AC outlet. The only downside is the charging fan is really noisy, so it’s best to leave in the garage, indoors might irritate you.

This is the primary function of this product, and it does a superb job. It quickly and smartly charges car batteries (mine which I think is 65Ah) in about 4 hours. It also automatically uses 3 phases for charging which keeps the battery healthy and means you can keep this thing plugged in the AC outlet forever without worrying about the battery condition. This is what the manual says:
Bulk: Replaces 70-80% of the battery’s state of charge at the fastest possible rate.
Absorption: Replenishes the remaining 20-30% of charge, bringing the battery to a full charge at a slow, safe rate
Float: Voltage is reduced and held constant in order to prevent damage and keep batteries at a full charge.
The downside is the noise again from the internal fan. I’ve used the charger to supply DC power to a car amp and subs and it works fine, but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea.
The overall build is good and solid, doesn’t look like a cheap product. It’s difficult to fit all the wires inside the housing. Not sure how well it’s going to last, but so far doesn’t seem like it’d break on me.

Xantrex 854-0150 Xpower Battery Charger
Don’t know what to think. I received the JumpCharger yesterday and the internal battery won’t accept a charge.
I contacted Xantrex customer service. They told me that this particular unit was manufactured in 2004; that the battery had apparently set on the shelf all this time and now is no good; that they have discontinued the manufacture of this item; and that replacement batteries are not available. He offered to exchange for a model 400 but the JumpCharger is no longer available. “Caveat Emptor”. I don’t know what to think because an internet search shows that several companies are selling this item.

Followed the simple instructions. Charge the unit first (internal battery). Connected first battery and the display could not indicate battery charged state (in amps or percentage).
Ran down the second battery (so that I knew it would need to be charged). Again, it gave no indication and did not allow me to select the charge rate. I am very disappointed with this device.

I purchased at a great price 2 of the X power 300′s with the inverter from Overstock and they have been fabulous. I have used them for over 3 years to charge hundreds of NICAD, NIMH and LI-POLY batteries. I couldn’t be happier. I then purchased the Powerpack 150 and have really been disappointed with it. I have some friends who purchased it as well thinking that it would perform like the 300 watt version who have also been extremely disappointed in it’s performance. I have read online how others have commented that it is lucky if it will even charge a flashlight battery. I charge one 1400 ma battery and that it just about all it will do. Basically all’s you get with the powerpack is a 12 pound piece of dead weight with a small flashlight built in. I should have returned it but I thought that it would get better with time but it didn’t. I would definitely check out the reviews on this model before even thinking about it. I saw one review that basically said the same thing I did but thought that it must have been a fluke. It wasn’t, it is a piece of junk. If X power is reading this, I would gladly retract my statement if you send me a replacement unit that performs anywhere near the 300′s. I wouldn’t take the time to post this if the unit was anywhere near decent, but it isn’t. I paid almost the same for the 150 as I did for the 300 because I was so happy with my 300′s. So my best advice is BEWARE of this unit. I still need a replacement so if anyone knows of a great unit like the 300 for a good price post a rating on this site and I will check it out.
