The instructions tell me to connect the negative clamp to the chassis but I do not get good readings or adequate results that way? What is the danger of connecting directly to battery posts? Thanks.

My car has two satellite (secondary) posts on it. Can I connect a battery charger to those? Or does it have to be connected directly to the battery?
