my battery was dead so i was gonna jump it off. i hooked up the negative cable to the posative post, and the posative cable to the negative post. And my GPZ 750 wont even start now…please help

I’m installing a solar battery charger for my lawn tractor. The instructions says attach the positive wire(+) to the positive red post of the battery and the negative wire to the negative post. However, both wires look the same except that one wire has a white stripe the entire length. Which wire is the positive?
