when jumpstarting a car why is it recommended that you ground the negative jumper cable of the car you are trying to jump on your engine instead of plugging it in to the negative terminal is this so electricity stays in the battery and doesn’t just circulate through it?

my battery was dead so i was gonna jump it off. i hooked up the negative cable to the posative post, and the posative cable to the negative post. And my GPZ 750 wont even start now…please help

The guages on the dash go haywire, coolant temp goes from hot to cold, oil pressure goes through the roof, etc, not good readings [...]

The usual procedure for jumping a car is to connect the black cable from the negative terminal of the good battery to a clean metal surface somewhere on the car requiring the jump. I have a portable ’12 v. jumper pack-portable’ with a cigarette style power tap. Would it be most efficient to utilize a step down transformer that taps into the back-up battery connections vs. a 12v. d.c. to 120v. a.c. adapter?
