This item is very useful for low power use during a power outage.
I run it off of the car battery.

I've had this inverter for about 18 months and happy to have had this with me all this while. I've owned a generic brand before buying the Black & Decker version and lasted a few months before burning out on me. This inverter has been a life-saver for me on more occasions than one. I can take my regular household chargers and use it on the go. No more ridiculous spending buying myriads of car-chargers for every gadget I own. It even has a pass-through car-charger slot so you don't need to switch plugs around. I'd probably get something in the range of 400W and dual sockets if this one ever dies.
Pluses:
Comes with an exhaust fan so unit does not overheat.
Can plug in almost any appliance that satisfies your travel needs (no, it cannot run your Dyson/Hoover)
Cons:
The "on/off" switch is built too close to the plug; it can get a tad tricky to operate the switch if the adapter "bricks" you use are over-sized. This is not a big turn-off, just an observation.

This compact inverter was a functional addition to a recent road trip through the New England states. Quiet design with a single 12V DC outlet and one AC outlet. Downside: only one outlet of each type; however, I purchased the product for use with primarily electronics (e.g., cell phone chargers, laptop, IPod, Digital Camera battery chargers, etc.) so it served its purpose well.

Two other downsides to the product: (1) The package comes with two wire options, one to plug in to the 12V DC and the second to connect directly to 12V battery terminals (i.e., car battery). This may be useful to some, but I feel as if the connection at the screws is not as sturdy as a cord permanently wired to the housing. (2) The cord has a pleasant "this product has been shown to cause cancer in California mice tests."

If you can get beyond the fact that a minute amount of insulation causes cancer and you can keep the cord from kids'/pets' mouths, then its a decent, lightweight and relatively cheap product.

It was a waste of money. Would not power any thing we tried except for a few seconds.
